Biking Trips Alaska and Southwestern USA
Follow
the footsteps of Alaska's gold miners by mountain bike. Many of our
local trails were originally established as hunting and trading routes
by Alaskan Natives then used by the men looking for gold. Some were
developed by the miners and those who followed but most offer routes
of varying difficulty into the mountains for cyclists. We offer these
rides as van supported day trips with accommodations at lodges and/or
campgrounds. These rides can vary in difficulty from "anyone can do
it" to the only way through is mud to your knees, the only way up is
to carry the bike over the boulders and hold on for the downhill. What
they all have in common is the beautiful scenery of Alaska.
We pick the terrain to suit rider's abilities and interests. There is
something for cyclists of all abilities and fitness levels.
Prices
begin at $200.00 per day per person two person minimum.
Areas we
lead mountain biking trips in the summertime are the Matanuska Valley, Talkeetna Mountains, Chugach National Forest on the Kenai Peninsula's singletrack
trails, Chugach State Park, Denali Highway Van supported, Copper River Highway in Cordova, Iditarod Trail, Knik
Glacier, Canol Trail in the Yukon, Canada, Denali Highway and Snowmachine Routes in the wintertime. With our specialized Fat bikes we are always exploring new routes for
beach rides in the summertime and new routes for winter riding as well. In April/May and late September/Oktoberwe offer biking trips in the Southwest especially in Utah and southern Colorado. See trip intinerary here: Mountainbike Tour Southwest USA

We start this trip in Anchorage and drive along the scenic Turnagain Arm where we have a chance to see Beluga whales in August. We start our first ride in the historic community of Hope. There are numerous cabins along the 38 mile Resurrection Pass route for stops.
Especially biking on these trails we get the chance to see wildlife along the route.
The next days we can choose between Johnson Pass trail ( 21 miles) and Lost Lake trail ( 15 miles) some of the most 6 miles of downhill. We will climb through dense forrest and then top out above treeline with a beautiful alping lake before desending down towards Seward. with Ressurrection Bay in our view on clear days.

Copper River Highway MountainBike Tour
This trip starts with a scenic trip on the Alaska Ferry from Whittier to the small fishing town of Cordova which can only be reached by airplane or boat. The Copper River Highway leads about 50 miles on a gravel road to Miles Lake with the magnificient Childs Glacier. In the heat of the summer it is so active that the ground trembles like during an earthquake when ice blocks as large as houses breack off standing by the lake.We will cross a landmark along the way the "Million Dollar Bridge" damaged by the 1964 Good Friday earthquake. The bridge has been repaired recently. We will spend a couple of days at the Childs Glacier Recreation Area before cycling back to Cordova where we will spend the night in a B&B before heading back to Anchorage.
Canol Road/Trail vehicle supported
We will cycle the northern part of the Canol Road from Ross River in the Yukon, Canada and on beyond Macmillan Pass depending on river flows.Bridges once crossing the creeks and rivers along the route have been washed away. This road was put in during World War II by the US Government to launch the Canol (Canadian Oil) Project in 1942. It went all the Norman Wells in the Northwest Territorries in Canada at one time. Today many of the bridges are washed out and the rest of the old road has been designated as the Canol Heritage Trail by the NWT government. We will ride parts of the road vehicle supported and for the adventurous cyclist we have the opportunity to go beyong Macmillan Pass and explore more parts of the old road. The best time for the trip is in late July/early August when the higher elevations are snow free and before the first snow of the winter. There is also less moskitos laster in the summer. This trip into a very remote part of the Yukon is for the adventurous and fit cyclist only. We will be covering 30-50 miles per day. Please contact us to find out more on this true adventure.
